Why “Cheap” Microdermabrasion Isn’t Worth It

Skipping steps in skincare has consequences.

Every week I see ads for “microdermabrasion specials” — $42 for a 10–15 minute session. And every time I see one, I can’t help but think: how is that even possible?

On the surface, it sounds like a great deal. Quick treatment, low cost, instant glow… right? But here’s the truth: a proper microdermabrasion treatment isn’t just about passing a machine over your face and sending you on your way. Real results take more time, care, and professional products than a 10-minute discount treatment can deliver.

What a real Microdermabrasion session includes

Here’s what actually goes into a full, professional treatment:

1. Double Cleansing

Your skin has layers of makeup, sunscreen, oil, and environmental buildup sitting on top of it. If you skip a thorough double cleanse, all of that debris stays in place. That means:

  • The exfoliation won’t be even or effective.
  • Dirt and oils can get pushed deeper into your pores.
  • Breakouts and irritation are much more likely.

Skipping this step is like painting over grease, it won’t stick, and it leaves a mess behind.

2. The Microdermabrasion Itself

This isn’t something that can be rushed. Technique matters. Every area of the face needs careful, even attention. When you squeeze a full treatment into 10–15 minutes, you’re not getting the deep, consistent exfoliation your skin deserves — you’re just scratching the surface (literally).

3. Serum Infusion & Rejuvenation

After exfoliation, your skin is in its most absorbent state. This is the moment to deliver nourishing, high-quality serums that help repair and restore. But here’s the catch:

  • If you skip this step, your skin is left vulnerable - exposed, dry, and more sensitive than before.
  • If a spa uses cheap, watered-down, or generic serums, your skin won’t actually receive the hydration, vitamins, or antioxidants it needs. Worse, low-quality formulas can cause stinging, redness, or reactions.

In other words: what you feed your skin post-treatment matters just as much as the exfoliation itself.

Why My Sessions Are Different

My full microdermabrasion treatments are $150 for a 60-minute session. And yes, I hear it: some people say that’s expensive. But here’s what you’re paying for, thorough cleansing, skilled technique, and professional-grade serums designed to truly improve skin health.

It’s not about cutting corners or rushing you out the door. It’s about treating your skin with the time, care, and attention it deserves.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to skincare, cheap often means rushed, incomplete, and ineffective. Skipping steps or using low-quality products doesn’t just waste your time and money — it can actually leave your skin worse off.

Your skin is an investment, not an afterthought. The next time you see a too-good-to-be-true microdermabrasion special, remember: you will get what you pay for & your skin deserves more than a quick fix.
