After acne scarring

True acne scars never fully disappear. But, their appearance usually improves with time.

Spots (Post–inflammatory pigmentation)

Redness after inflammation gets better with time. But, it can take a long time for it to heal completely.

These may be visible as pink or purple flat patches. They may also be brown pigmentation, as seen in people who can tan easily. Or they may be white marks, in those who have a fair complexion.

Scars

There are many types including:

  • Ice–pick scars — V–shaped scars that can go deep into the skin
  • Rolling scars — are wide depressions. They have rounded edges and a rolling shape.
  • Boxcar scars — wide U–shaped scars that have sharp edges

Each scar type responds to treatment differently. Some treatments are better for some types than others.

Additionally, your skin tone can also be a factor. For darker skin types, we do not recommend deep skin laser treatments. They have a higher risk of scarring and pigmentation.
